About Geoff Burchill

Passion, Power & Prejudice reveals the extraordinary evolution of the professional and entrepreneurial career of author Geoff Burchill through his work in the development of the Gold Coast, Australia’s tourism capital, and now its sixth largest city of more than half a million people, and an important centre for innovation.

Burchill’s work across engineering, planning, architecture, market strategy, risk management, project management, and the creation of phenomenal ready-to-go integrated resorts always had real money at risk.

His firm became Australia’s largest consulting group specialising in master planning and engineering for private sector resort city development, and with offices in Japan and Malaysia.

In the 1980s and 1990s, in addition to creating his own mega-projects within the Gold Coast for ready-to-go foreign investment, his consulting work spread to places around the Asia-Pacific region where innovative development was needed to capture a share of the escalating global tourism market and offer the kinds of living environments pioneered on the Gold Coast.

This led to him becoming an international speaker and consultant on innovative broadacre development. Most recently, he was a keynote speaker at the 2005 international real estate convention in Kuala Lumpur.

He led community organisations in golf, media, international business, development, and visionary schemes for Gold Coast tourism infrastructure up-grades.

Journalists, authors and academics from around Australia and even overseas have sought his opinions as a trusted contact for his encyclopaedic knowledge of visionary development in what remains today as Australia’s fastest growing region.

He retains an interest privately in assisting in the building of successful strategies for the kinds of projects in which he became a specialist, as the book describes. He welcomes bona-fide commercial inquiries for advice and planning.
